Army Parade For Pacquiao

The Philippine Army gives Manny Pacquiao the boxer a testimonial parade for his accomplishments in boxing.

Is this not stupid?

Does the government mean that the accomplishments of other Filipinos excelling in other fields are less important than boxing? Did the government give the same honor to Bata Reyes, Django Bustamante, Charice Pempengco, Arnel Pineda and Wesley So to name a few? What is so special with boxing?  How about our men and women in the medical, educational, religious, science and other interests?

The representative from Saranggani province could have refused the honor and  requested the amount the Army spends for the parade to be used in buying equipments in fighting insurgency and terrorist activities.

Next time Wesley So comes home after defeating strong chess grandmasters in an international tournament he wins elsewhere, do we expect our Army to give him the same honor given to Mr. Pacquiao?

  1. Pacquiao is a Master Sergeant of the Philippine Army Reserve Unit, and the Army is honoring him for his accomplishments since he is one of its own. As with any other issue, please do your research before making negative comments...

  2. Thank you Rose for your comment. I have nothing to research for other issues. It is not a crime to express an opinion. For the record, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. Feeling uncomfortable with an issue we don't believe in is normal but insinuating that one is wrong in his negative opinion is sophomoric. Disagreeing is a part of a civilized society. Negative comments are not necessarily wrong. They could be correct.

I still have to read a blog that is 100% positive or 100% negative in its opinions expressed.

Better, I would be very thankful to you if you can send here the URL of news when our Armed Forces tendered a parade to the personalities I mentioned.

What achievement in the military did the reservist Rep. Pacquiao do that deserves a parade? As a congressman? Mr. Pacquiao, eyeing another fight this year may hold the record of having the most absences in the House. As a boxer? He was not able to KO an almost senior citizen Mosley!

Did the Armed Forces give a military parade to one of its active members, giving his life saving people at the height of Ondoy in the person of Venancio Ancheta, a true hero? Did our Armed Forces give a military parade to Rep. Rudy Farinas for his performance in the House who is an Army reservist I believe?
